A Collective Success: Green Light for the Laruscade Site
FLYING WHALES is delighted with the publication of the prefectural decree regarding the Laruscade site. This decision marks the culmination of over four years of collective work carried out with the Latitude Nord Gironde Community of Communes, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, State services, and all our partners.
The prefectural decree follows the recommendations of the investigating commissioners, issued at the end of the public inquiry, which recognizes the project as being of major public interest due to its economic benefits, rigorous and sufficient environmental measures, and its impact on the local economy.
Alain Rousset, President of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region
“FLYING WHALES is a groundbreaking, internationally significant project that ushers us into the era of sustainable heavy goods transport. The prefectural decree is an important step towards the construction of this unique Final Assembly Line in Laruscade, which will create 300 direct jobs. This authorization rewards the quality of work carried out since 2019 between the Latitude Nord Gironde Community of Communes, FLYING WHALES, the Region, and the State, to identify the site least sensitive in terms of biodiversity and environmental impact, and to anticipate the most efficient compensatory measures.”
Eric Happert, President of the Latitude Nord Gironde Community of Communes (CCLNG)
“The CCLNG welcomes the signing of the prefectural decree, which is the result of several years of partnership work to authorize the project in compliance with the Environmental Code. Following the favorable reports from the inquiry commission issued on September 11, the State, through this authorization, validates the substantial work carried out to meet environmental requirements. Very soon, the permits under the Urban Planning Code will be granted, and the first construction works can begin in 2026.”
