We design today and we will build and operate tomorrow a fleet of airships, the LCA60T, intended for cargo transport. Capable of loading and unloading up to 60 tons of cargo (wood, wind turbine blades, containers, mobile hospitals, etc.) in hovering flight, with a reduced environmental footprint, this transport system is unprecedented.

We are looking for a Design Engineer to join the Flying Whales Design Team in Suresnes, you will be responsible to conception, pre-sizing, designing of new products, and drafting the specifications for the manufacturing of the LCA60T structure and its interfaces.


  • Plan, organize and prioritize the various subjects related to the Airframe of the LCA60T.

  • Elaborate structural design solutions of the various components with a vision of design to cost and lean manufacturing.

  • Participate in the organization and development of design methods and tools.

  • Conception and modeling of structural parts.

  • Pre-sizing of structural parts.

  • Analyze and respond to requests from the various departments associated with Airframe, Hull or Cargo bay.

  • Support the multidisciplinary teams responsible for work packages internal and external.

  • Interact with different actors to define innovative and efficient solutions.

  • Participate in the organization and planning of structural design activities.

  • Ensure the traceability of the analyses and trade-offs to guarantee the technical relevance of the work performed (technical validation).

  • Propose innovative solutions during the execution of the different studies.


  • Education: BAC+5 engineering degree (or equivalent) in aeronautical or mechanical field

  • Previous experience: Minimum of 3 years into an aeronautical industry or design office.



  • Knowledge of:

o   Design of aircraft structure.

o   Design of metallic parts (sheet metal, NC, extruded).

o   Design of assemblies and Mechanical Installations.Knowledge in design of composite structures is a plus.

o   Elaboration/preparation of mechanical drawings on CAD.

o   CATIA V5 – (CATIA V6 / 3DExperience is a plus) or another CAD.

o   Elaboration/preparation of drawings on CAD (2D or 3D).

o   Elaboration of ICD documents.

o   Experience in product lifecycle management tools.

o   Experience in product development phases of aerostructures (PDR or CDR).

o   Experience with structural design principles for aircraft primary structure such as fatigue, damage tolerance, corrosion, materials strength and material characteristics is a plus.

o   Knowledge on Stress Analysis – FEA is a plus.

o   Knowledge on stack-up analysis according ASME Y 14.5 (or ISO GD&T standards) is a plus.

o   Knowledge of EBOM and Standard parts for aeronautic industry.

o   Knowledge of Aerospace manufacturing techniques and process is a plus.

o   Parallel engineering (baseline and tradeoffs).

  • Previous experience in the field:

o   Mechanical conception design.

o   Detailing design of assemblies and detail parts.

o   Integration Design between structure components.

  • Previous experience with aircraft design will be a positive differential for the application.



  • Able to support new designers based on the aeronautical practices.

  • Patient, innovative, and curious.

  • Open to constructive criticism and analytical.

  • Good team player.

  • Good communication in English and French.

  • Other skills: MS Office
