We design today and we will build and operate tomorrow a fleet of airships, the LCA60T, intended for cargo transport. Capable of loading and unloading up to 60 tons of cargo (wood, wind turbine blades, containers, mobile hospitals, etc.) in hovering flight, with a reduced environmental footprint, this transport system is unprecedented.

We are looking for a Material Engineer to join the Flying Whales Design Team in Suresnes.

As Material Leader for the LCA60T program, you are accountable for ensuring the development, qualification, and certification of the materials of the LCA60T.

You are responsible for analyzing, researching, and developing materials (metallics and composites) and their related application processes for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures.

You apply principles of chemistry, physics, and material science to investigate material issues and provide solutions as well as work in a disruptive environment with other engineering organizations performing detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications, and manufacturing plans.


  • Define material list in Flying Whales perimeter.

  • Ensure supply capacity for materials (material qualification management with partners).

  • Ensure process and control capacity (process and control qualification management).

  • Ensure reliability and characterization of materials allowable and design values used by stress team.

  • Support the design and stress team for metallics and composites parts tests.

  • Ensure the qualification of the materials.

  • Oversee corrosion control plans and strategies.

  • Support the certification team for the material aspects.

  • In the future you will manage a little team.


  • Education: BAC+5 engineering degree (or equivalent) in aeronautical or material field.

  • Previous experience: At least 5 years of experience in an aeronautical development context:

o   Good experience on selection of materials (metallics or composites) and processes to ensure attainment of design objectives.

o   Good experience on Mechanics of materials and characterization technics.

o   Good experience in structural parts of an aircraft structures.

o   Experience in aeronautical development cycle at an airplane manufacturer is an important plus.

o   Experience in aeronautical development and qualification tests.

  • Knowledge of:

o   Materials characteristics (composites or metallics).

o   Certification requirements applied for the qualification of the aircraft structural parts.

o   Manufacturing process for the aeronautical structural parts.



  • Curious, autonomous, motivated and energic.

  • A good team member with good communication skills.

  • Manager skills, able to manage a project in a development context on a disruptive product.

  • Solution oriented.

  • Knowledge of a project manager software.

  • Very good level of English, French is a real plus.

  • Good knowledge of MS Office.
